Student End of the Year Closing & Locker Clean Out
Hello HMS Parents/Students,
I am sending this email to inform you that I have received guidance from the District about closing out the school year for students, including cleaning out lockers. I have included the student schedule for cleaning out lockers to this message. It is imperative that students/parents closely adhere to the schedule. Keeping the schedule will help to maintain social distancing guidelines at this critical time. There are several points that are important to this process:
- Students should only come to the building during their designated times. Band and orchestra students will sign up for times to return or pick up instruments, using links sent in a separate email. Please check your email and sign up for a time slot.
- Please follow directions for entry and exit of the building
- Please refrain from student gatherings inside and outside the building.
- Only students will be able to enter the building. Parents will be asked to wait in the car or outside for their child to return. Parking is available in the parking lot facing Henderson Mill Road, the two parking lots located on Bolero Road and in the circular drive, and in the back of the building next to the circular turnabout.
- Only students of Henderson Middle School will be allowed to enter the building. No visitations with teachers or office personnel.
- No appointments can be made for face-to-face meetings with Henderson Middle School faculty, staff, or administration. All meetings must be conducted over the phone or online.
- Students must wear masks upon entering the building and on school grounds.
- Students should maintain social distancing at all times (stay at least 6 feet apart).
- Please follow directions of administrators and school personnel when moving through the building.
- Please clean out your locker, return textbooks, and exit the building as quickly as possible so that we may stay on schedule.
- There will be a container, located at the front breezeway entrance to return HMS library books.
- Yearbooks will be picked up in the front entrance breezeway (this location may be subject to change but notification will be given if this happens).
HMS STUDENT LOCKER CLEANOUT SCHEDULE
YEAR END FOR SY 2019 2020

This will allow us to minimize the number of people in the building and maintain social distancing guidelines.

Entry & Exit Points
Band and orchestra students will enter the building at the back door of the classrooms. Students will proceed to the tennis court in the rear of the building and enter doors on the back of the school building. Students will, then, proceed to their lockers for clean out and exit the building based on their grade level (see below).
Sixth graders (excluding band and orchestra students) will enter the building by the roundabout (the circle) in the sixth grade wing and exit the building using the stairwells at both ends of the sixth grade wing. Parents may proceed up the back drive, located along the far side of the building, to the sixth grade wing. Parking is available in the rear of the building.
Seventh graders (excluding band and orchestra students) will enter the building at the front entrance breezeway and proceed to the 200 hallway to reach their lockers. Seventh graders will exit the building at the 100, 300, or 500 hallway doors. Parking for parents is available in the parking lots facing Henderson Mill Road and Bolero Road.
Eighth graders (excluding band and orchestra students) will enter the building at the front entrance breezeway and proceed to the 400 hallway to reach their lockers. Eighth graders will exit the building at the 100, 300, or 500 hallway doors. Parking for parents is available in the parking lots facing Henderson Mill Road and Bolero Road.
Recent developments for parents/students to know:
Chromebooks will not be collected from students matriculating to Lakeside or any other school within the DeKalb County School District. If you will be a ninth grader in the DeKalb County School District next school year, you will keep your Chromebook over the summer and your information will be sent to your new high school. Only students leaving the DeKalb County School District will return their Chromebooks at HMS. If you leave the District without returning your Chromebook, the information will remain on your school records and your new high school will be informed.
All refunds will be mailed to your home. Teachers have been informed to begin the process of submitting paperwork for all student refunds and to turn in the completed paperwork to the school bookkeeper. If anyone is due a refund, you will need to check with the appropriate teachers to make sure that the paperwork is processed. It is the goal of the administration to get checks in the mail by the week of June 22nd. Checks will be mailed to the primary address on file within Infinite Campus.
Report cards for the end of the school year will be mailed home. The address on file within Infinite Campus will be the address to which the report card is mailed.
In closing, the faculty, staff, and administration of Henderson Middle School would like to thank our wonderful students and parents for an outstanding school year. It is unfortunate that we could not end the school year face-to-face in the building together. As you know, that was out of everyone’s control. We want to take this time to thank our wonderful PTSA for their continued support and kindness during the school year. We are truly blessed at Henderson Middle to have such a wonderful organization within our midst. We, at HMS, also want to say to returning students to please have a wonderful and safe summer. The time cannot go fast enough for us to be able to greet each other once again in person. Finally, we wish our 8th graders good luck as they move onto high school. Reach for the moon and you will surely land among the stars!
Take care everyone and please stay safe!
Sincerely,
—Rochelle Patillo, Principal, Henderson Middle School
